For some, choosing a photo album doesn't require a lot of thought, and any convenient option will do. In addition to storing photos, an album helps protect photos and is a convenient way to view family photos. This is especially important for older printed photos that you plan to keep for generations. Here are a few things to consider when choosing an album.     

Kind

Photo albums are available in a variety of sizes, capacities, and cover materials. The three basic types are ring binders, notes, and scrapbooks. Ring Binder Albums let you add or rearrange photo pages however you want. The rings open so you can add or delete pages as needed.Scrapbooks have pages tied behind the back. They often have open pockets for photos and lined rooms so you can add captions next to each photo. Scrapbooks are designed for 12 "x 12" scrapbook photo pages. They can be ring-bound or adhesive-bound with a certain number of pages. In the large side area you can add decorative options to personalize your album.                

Photo Size and Capacity

The albums are available in various sizes and capacities and are available in both portrait and landscape formats. The sizes are given in inches and reflect the common photo print sizes and photo frames. Some popular inch sizes are: 4 "x 6", 5 "x 5", 5 "x 7", 6 "x 8", and 8 "x 10". larger, usually 12 "x 12" or more to accommodate the same size specialty scrapbook paper. This larger size helps accommodate large interesting items like ticket stubs, stationery, award ribbons, etc. Capacity varies widely depending on the brand and style. Ring binder albums let you add more pages as needed, while a perfect-bound album limits you to the pages in the album. The size of the photos you print also determines how much storage space you need per page. In general, you want to choose a photo album type based on the number and size of your photos.             

Binding and Covering Material

The albums are glued or ring-bound. Ring albums are similar to a three or four ring binder used for school or work. Metal rings open and allow paper or photo bags to be added or removed as needed. These types of albums are popular choices because of their versatility and price. Glue-bound albums have a fixed number of pages. They have a classic look and resemble a traditional hardcover book. These types of albums are usually Memo type and have lines printed on the pages for you to take notes or reminders. The sky is the limit when it comes to covering material. Popular options include leather, faux fur, buckram (a stiff cotton cloth with loose weave), paper, and other fabrics. You can opt for a classic leather or cloth sleeve, or get creative by customizing a paper sleeve. Decking materials come in almost every color and texture imaginable, but classic colors like navy blue, black, and red are popular options.            

Skylight

Some albums have a decorative cover window so you can view a specific photo. This function allows you to set the album theme. Windows usually have a protective cover and a removable slot or backing so you can change the photo as often as you like. Album window covers come in a variety of sizes to accommodate photos, from wallet size to 4x6 inches. Window coverings are popular in wedding and baby albums. Many scrapbook albums also contain them, as these albums often have a theme.         

Pages

There are three types of pages in photo albums pockets, adhesive or non-adhesive. The photo bags are made of transparent plastic. They allow the user to slip the picture into any pocket. For pocket sizes, common print sizes such as 4 x 6 inches, 5 x 7 inches, etc. are used as standard. They are a popular choice for ring binder albums. Sticky-line pages allow you to place photos on the page without the need for photo corners or glue. The glue is strong enough to hold the photos. However, you can reposition or remove them as needed. These pages also have clear plastic that covers the photos to keep them in place and to protect them from dust and dirt.             

Non-sticky pages are basically paper. The paper is generally archival quality and is made not to fade or deteriorate over time. Sometimes you may need to use photo corners or some glue to secure each photo onto the paper. These pages may or may not have clear plastic covers. Nonstick paper is popular in scrapbooks and notes. It is important to use an album with pages that do not contain acid, lignin, and PVC. This is also known as "file safe". Photo albums with this label are suitable for photos. This will help protect your photos as they will not come into contact with chemicals that can accelerate the deterioration of the paper.              

Photo Montage

Photos are mounted in albums with photo corners, glue sticks, double-sided tape or by putting them in a pocket to store photos.Pocket sides are a popular option for mounting photos because they are easy and convenient. No need to buy stickers; just insert the photo and voila. The corners of the photos are small pieces of tape shaped like triangles with a removable backing. They slide easily into the corners of photos. They can be difficult to use because they are so small. Photo corners are a great way to include larger photos or memories in scrapbooks. Double-sided tape is double-sided tape. Easily keep photos in place on paper sheets. Double-sided tape is also popular for use in scrap booking. Acid-free glue sticks are also used to affix photos to non-sticky paper albums. They are easy to use and dry quickly. Depending on how much you use, the glue can make the photo stick permanently to the paper.    

 

Additional Properties

Photo albums are a thoughtful gift to celebrate special occasions like weddings, anniversaries, holidays, birthdays or the birth of a new baby. An album with a special decorative element makes the album more unique. Some decorative elements include tie clasps, tile windows, side guards, unique covering materials, and even raised designs. Tie fasteners can be made of ribbon, rope, leather or elastic. They are functional and decorative. They help keep the album closed when not in use and add a nifty finishing touch to the album. Photo windows on the cover allow you to view a special photo or present the album theme. If you'd like the option to show more than one photo, you can do so in the tile windows. Side guards are usually made of thin, clear plastic that will keep your photos dust-free and in place. Not all albums are included, but they are a useful feature. Show your personality with an unforgettable cover. If you're bored with plain dark blue, brown, or black envelopes, look for albums with unusual envelopes made from metal or wood materials, or with an embossed design.
